From Banker to Nature's Farmer
வங்கியாளரிலிருந்து இயற்கை விவசாயி வரைகு.செந்தமிழ் செல்வன் spent 36 years in banking — watching farmers struggle to repay loans, watching fertile land go barren, and watching a system that rewarded middlemen over the people who grew the food. He couldn't look away.
In 2012, at the age of 60, he mortgaged his home for ₹40 lakhs, bought 3 acres of land near Kalambattu, Latteri — land others had written off as unfit for cultivation. The first year, his income was zero.
By year four, the same barren land was yielding 4 tonnes of mangoes and 10,000 coconuts annually — fully organic and alive with biodiversity. Today, Arivuthottam is a thriving 3-acre farm, a certified agro-tourism destination and an inspiration to thousands of farmers.

K. Senthamizh Selvan Sells His Home & Starts the Farm
After witnessing farmers' struggles during his banking career, Selvan took a bold step — sold his home and transformed barren land in Vellore into a thriving organic farm, founding Arivuthottam.

Bio-fertilisers Introduced — Trees Begin to Recover
Switching to organic pest management and bio-fertilisers, the health of coconut and mango trees gradually improved. From the second year onwards, yields began increasing — validating the organic approach.

Farm Becomes Fully Productive — 4 Tonnes of Mangoes/Year
After four years of effort the farm began producing 4 tonnes of mangoes annually, 8,000–10,000 coconuts per year, and additional income from banana, lemon and herbal plants. Farmers and students begin visiting to learn.

Arivu Thottam Becomes a Knowledge Farm
The farm earns its name — Arivu Thottam (Knowledge Farm). Agricultural students and farmers from across Tamil Nadu begin visiting regularly for training, exposure visits and hands-on learning in natural farming techniques.

What is Makkal Nala Santhai?

An organic farmers' market with no middlemen. Farmers sell directly to consumers at fair prices — no agents, no commission. Fresh chemical-free produce for buyers, full value for farmers.

Can I visit with my family or school?

Yes — families, school groups, college students and corporates are all welcome. Guided walk through flower garden, mango orchard, coconut grove and 100+ medicinal plants. Free, by appointment.

Is organic farming really profitable?

Yes — more profitable after a 2–3 year transition as input costs drop by up to 87%. Arivuthottam went from zero income in year one to earning in lakhs by year four.
