What We Do

A Living Model of Natural Farming

Arivuthottam's organic farming programme began in 2012 when founder K. Senthamizh Selvan purchased three acres of degraded land near Latteri in Vellore district — land with only a few dying coconut and mango trees, poor soil fertility and limited irrigation.

Through consistent effort and natural farming practices, the land was gradually revived into a productive, biodiverse farm ecosystem — proving that degraded land can be restored without chemicals, and that organic farming can be both sustainable and profitable.

🌱
Promoting organic and sustainable agriculture — demonstrating chemical-free methods that restore soil health
🔬
Demonstrating integrated farming models — combining crops, composting, water conservation and biodiversity
📚
Educating farmers, students and consumers — thousands have visited to learn practical organic techniques
🌾
Preserving traditional agricultural knowledge — keeping heirloom varieties, medicinal plants and indigenous practices alive

Our Methods

How We Farm Naturally

🪱
Vermiculture & Composting
Earthworm-based composting converts farm waste into rich, nutrient-dense vermicompost — rebuilding soil organic matter, improving structure and feeding crops naturally without synthetic fertilisers.
💧
Water Conservation
Drip irrigation, mulching and rainwater harvesting techniques minimise water use while maintaining soil moisture — critical for productive farming in Vellore's semi-arid conditions.
🌿
Intercropping & Polyculture
Growing multiple crops together — coconuts with bananas with vegetables with herbs — mimics natural ecosystems, reduces pest pressure, maximises land use and builds biodiversity.
🐛
Natural Pest Management
Companion planting, botanical pest repellents and encouraging natural predators replace chemical pesticides — protecting crops while keeping the farm ecosystem healthy and chemical-free.
🌱
Soil Health First
All farming decisions at Arivuthottam start with soil. Regular soil testing, organic amendments and cover cropping continuously improve soil biology, fertility and structure — the foundation of productive organic farming.
🌾
Traditional Variety Preservation
Arivuthottam actively grows and preserves heirloom and traditional crop varieties — traditional rice types, indigenous vegetables and medicinal plants — protecting Tamil Nadu's agricultural heritage.

Farmer Voice

In Their Own Words

👨‍🌾
Witnessing farmers drown in debt from chemical farming changed everything for me. I bought three acres of dying land near Latteri and proved that nature, when respected, rewards us with abundance.
"ரசாயன விவசாயத்தால் கடனில் மூழ்கும் விவசாயிகளை பார்த்தே என் வாழ்க்கை திசை மாறியது. இயற்கையை மரியாதையுடன் நடத்தும்போது, அது வளமாக திரும்பி வரும்." K. Senthamizh Selvan, Founder — Arivuthottam Founder
